Weapons Collection

This is a valuable, self-contained and internally structured collection, situated somewhere between a museum collection and an archival estate, spanning the years 1850–1972. The collection’s value lies in its comprehensiveness and it provides significant insight into the history of the Bratislava City Museum itself.

What does the collection document?

• Military and civilian organisations: military and security groups and units, as well as civilian organisations (hunting, sport shooting) active within the city from the Middle Ages up to the 20th century.

• Weapons and equipment: the collection comprises historical weapons and equipment.

• Weapons from global conflicts: the collection includes weapons used in both world wars.

Valuable objects of national and international significance:

• A significant collection of supra-regional importance, comprising items crafted by Bratislava gunsmiths.

• Oriental and exotic weapons that were brought to the city in the past as war and travel trophies.
