Vision

The primary role of museums as public institutions is to serve society. We therefore view the public nature of the Bratislava City Museum as an opportunity to be truly useful to the city and its residents. Our goal is to build an open, inclusive, and respected museum that sensitively combines scholarly research, the preservation of cultural heritage, and active dialogue with the public—an institution that reflects both the city’s past and present and promotes multifaceted perspectives, humanity, and democratic values.

We also view the museum as a vibrant space for interaction and gathering that reflects contemporary social, cultural, environmental, and technological challenges in the context of our city. Our goal is to offer high-quality education and scholarly outputs grounded in verified facts and historical sources. We act as a trustworthy and transparent partner that interprets the history of Bratislava comprehensively, critically, and from multiple perspectives.

An essential part of our work is to continuously innovate the museum and develop cooperation with other institutions, the professional community, and various segments of the population. We believe that by involving the audience itself in the co-creation of the museum’s content, we can raise the bar for our services.

We place visitors at the center of our attention, creating attractive and accessible programs, exhibitions, and publications for them. We remove both physical and informational barriers and communicate clearly and sensitively so that all segments of the population feel safe and comfortable here.

On our journey toward this vision, we are guided by the values of openness, accessibility, and diversity. We strive to be firm and transparent in our positions, and in addition to our values, we clearly uphold the principles of a democratic state governed by the rule of law. We base the museum’s operations on four pillars: professionalism, innovation, high quality, and accessibility of services for all. These principles have become our living DNA, which we translate into strategic goals.

What will the MMB be like in 2028?

• The MMB’s collections are systematically and clearly documented, preserved, and actively utilized for scholarly purposes. They are accessible to both scholars and the general public, thereby raising awareness of Bratislava’s history and way of life.

• The MMB’s cultural services are available and accessible to everyone without exception. MMB is an active and responsible public institution that emphasizes inclusion, accessibility, and barrier-free access. It offers high-quality educational programs, promotes cultural diversity, social inclusion, and collaboration with the city’s residents. Thanks to targeted and clear communication and the development of programs, the museum’s reach and social impact are increasing.

• The MMB systematically researches and presents the history of Bratislava, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the city’s identity and the shaping of its image.

• Devín Castle, as a significant site, is systematically managed, professionally supported, and equipped with a well-developed infrastructure. Visiting it is an attractive and comfortable experience for the public.
