Hana Krutílková

The Czech historian and curator has worked in museums since 2009. Since 2015, she has been based at the Department of History of the Moravian Museum in Brno, where she works as a researcher and curator. Her responsibilities include the management of collections of postcards, posters, leaflets and books, as well as exhibition, educational and public engagement activities. Her research focuses on the political and social history of the Czech lands, with particular emphasis on women’s history, gender history and the history of Moravia and Silesia in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Her key scholarly contribution is the monograph Disciplinované buřičky: Ženy v politických stranách na Moravě do roku 1914 (2022), which challenges traditional assumptions about political parties as environments inherently unfavourable to women’s political agency. Krutílková demonstrates that women were actively involved in all levels of party work across the political spectrum long before the First World War.

Alongside her academic work, Hana Krutílková is actively involved in the public engagement and popularisation of history. She is the author of guided walks developed as part of the Brněnské HERstory project, which highlight women’s voices calling for equal civil rights. She also shares her research through podcasts, including Přepište dějiny, as well as through public and academic lectures.

Another important area of her work is the study of memory politics and the representation of women in museum collections. In this field, she works closely with the Department of Modern History at the National Museum on research into feminist activism and the gender dimensions of cultural identity. Her work thus bridges academic research and contemporary museum practice, drawing attention to chapters of history that have long been overlooked.
