Are you between 16 and 24? We want to hear what you think.

Bratislava City Museum is preparing a new branch dedicated to the contemporary history of Bratislava. We want it to be a place where young people feel welcome, can explore history in their own way and discuss topics that matter to society today.

That is why we are looking for young people aged 16–24 who would like to take part in themed sessions and share their opinions, experiences and ideas. You will meet architects, researchers and other people involved in creating the new museum. Together, we will discuss questions such as:

  • What should a museum space look like to feel welcoming and open to young people?
  • Which key moments from the communist period should we know about, and why?
  • How can a museum talk about the past in a way that is relevant to today’s generation?

Our first session will take place on 31 August at 16:30 and will focus on the interior of the new branch. The architects will present the project, and we will be able to discuss how they have incorporated your comments and ideas.

We will then meet with the project researchers on 19 October at 16:30 to discuss interesting moments from the communist period. We will also work with objects from the museum’s collections.

On 16 October at 16:30, the Nation’s Memory Institute will introduce its work with historical memory, documents and personal stories. We will also discuss the legacy of the Velvet Revolution.

We will leave the December topic partly up to you. Tell us what you would most like to explore, whether it is democracy and the threats posed by totalitarian regimes, or how curators decide what will be included in an upcoming exhibition. You can suggest more than one topic, as the sessions will continue in 2027.

Would you like to get involved?

Fill in the short form and let us know which topics interest you.

We will get back to you with more information about the upcoming sessions. You do not need to study history or museology. We are interested in your perspective.

Come to discuss, ask questions, disagree and suggest ideas. Help us create a museum that belongs to your generation too.

The activity is part of the Turning Points – Museums for a Democratic Future project, which develops cross-border cooperation between the museum and Volkskundemuseum Wien.
