Family Matters
The publication accompanying the exhibition of the same name features seven bilingual texts (Slovak–English). In these, the authors – who include historians, museum curators and archivists – explore the phenomenon of the bourgeoisie in a Central European context, the identity of the inhabitants of Bratislava and Pressburg, as well as specific families. In their essays, they trace the life stories of the Munker & Haeberle, Mader & Weisz, Wimmer and Hubert families.
They focus on the museumisation of family collections and estates, on life strategies, the families’ activities in the city, and the impact of regime changes on the families and their businesses.
