Literary collection

A highly specialised, cross-sectional collection covering the period from 1850 to 2000. It documents cultural (primarily literary and, to a lesser extent, musical) life in Bratislava from the late 19th century to the late 1980s. New acquisitions relating to literary life and, in a broader sense, cultural life in Bratislava are added to the collection on an ongoing basis.

What does the collection document?

• Literary and musical life: it charts cultural (primarily literary and, to a lesser extent, musical) life in Bratislava from the late 19th century to the late 1980s.

• Slovak literary output: the main focus of the collection is on documenting literary life in the city through the lens of and the works by Slovak writers and editors.

Valuable objects of national and international significance:

• The collection of Slovak authors and editors: collections relating to leading figures such as Hana Gregorová, Jozef Gregor Tajovský, Janko Jesenský, Ján Rob-Poničan, František Votruba, Ján Smrek, Ján Hrušovský, Fraňo Kráľ, Peter Jilemnický, Rudolf Klačko, Augustín Način-Borina, Pavol Horov, Ferdinand Gabaj, Andrej Kostolný, Emil Boleslav Lukáč, Eduard Krajňák, Andrej Plávka, Štefan Králik, Valentín Beniak, Laco Novomeský, Ľudo Zúbek, Andrej Dobrota, Ján Plic, Jozef Hajko, Dominik Tatarka and others.

• Collections of cultural figures: Groups of objects associated with the composer Ján Levoslav Bella, the librettist and lyricist Jarko Elen-Kaiser, and the married couple Andrej and Marta Bagar.
