Literary collection

Narrowly specialised cross-sectional collection with the time span limited by the period 1850–2000. It documents the cultural, especially literary and marginally also musical life in Bratislava from the end of the 19th century until the end of the 1980s. It is continuously enlarged with new items that are related to literary and, in a broader sense, to cultural life in Bratislava.

What does the collection document?

• Literary and musical life: it reflects the cultural, especially literary and marginally also musical life in Bratislava from the end of the 19th century until the end of the 1980s.

• Slovak literary works: the main collection line is focused on documenting the literary life in the city through the lens and work of Slovak writers and editors.

Valuable items with supra-regional significance:

• Collection of Slovak authors and editors: collections associated with prominent figures, such as for example Hana Gregorová, Jozef Gregor Tajovský, Janko Jesenský, Ján Rob-Poničan, František Votruba, Ján Smrek, Ján Hrušovský, Fraňo Kráľ, Peter Jilemnický, Rudolf Klačko, Augustín Način-Borina, Pavlo Horov, Ferdinand Gabaj, Andrej Kostolný, Emil Boleslav Lukáč, Eduard Krajňák, Andrej Plávka, Štefan Králik, Valentín Beniak, Laco Novomeský, Ľudo Zúbek, Andrej Dobrota, Ján Plic, Jozef Hajko, Dominik Tatarka etc.

• Collections of personalities of culture: collections of objects related to the composer Ján Levoslav Bella, librettist and lyricist Jarko Elen-Kaiser or the married couple Andrej and Marta Bagar.
