Ancient Gerulata

The Ancient Gerulata is a former castellum, a significant military camp from the times when the territory of the present-day Bratislava represented the border of the Roman Empire, the so-called Limes Romanus. The unique location is one of the most preserved Roman monuments in Slovakia and it is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of Roman borders. Today, you can visit Gerulata as an archaeological site with an interior as well as outdoor exhibition.
You will see remains of a buidling’s foundations, you wil learn how the inhabitants of the castellum lived and explore also the most interesting archaeological finds from this location: weapons, jewels, pottery, sarcophagi, or Roman coins. The museum’s grounds, located 20-minute drive from the city centre, will captivate you not only with its historical richness but also with its atmosphere, Mediterraean greenery and surrounding nature that is ideal for a walk.
