Memorial House of J. N. Hummel
The place associated with the significant European music composer J. N. Hummel is a hidden surprise that you can discover on your stroll through the centre of Bratislava. Going through the music shop on Klobučnícka ulica, you will get to the peaceful courtyard where Hummel’s birthplace once stood. However, that one ceased to exist during the rebuilding of the city, only the Baroque relief of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary has been preserved as well as the neighbouring 17th century garden house, on which the relief is now placed. The garden house was open as a museum as early as 1937. You can find there an exhibition focusing on the life and work of the composer, a collection of his musical instruments and examples of period sheet music. If you happen to pass by, stop by for a short visit and meet Hummel, Mozart’s pupil, Haydn’s or Goethe’s friend, teacher and piano virtuoso.

The museum is tucked away in Bratislava’s historic centre on Klobučnícka Street, but you will not see it directly from the street. It is hidden in a quiet courtyard away from the bustle of the city. Simply enter the Hummel Music shop and continue into the inner courtyard. Tickets can be purchased in the music shop.
