Michael’s Tower is one of the most prominent locations of the Bratislava City Museum. The last preserved city gate, the best preserved part of the medieval fortification, a defense, watch as well as clock tower, a home for people as well as a museum, a symbol of the city as well as a place of work and life. Michael’s Tower has been all this over more than seven centuries. It’s visit offers not only a display of many exhibits, but also of the monument itself which bears the trace of its rich history.

The tower saw an extensive restoration in 2021 – 2023 that helped to preserve its last Baroque appearance from 1758. This latest restoration, historical development of the building and interesting facts about the restoration and architecture are the topics of the current exhibition. Although the tower is located on a bustling street of the narrow city centre, you will be surprised by peaceful, pleasant atmosphere and panoramic view of Bratislava.

Frequently asked questions

Do not expect a typical museum full of showcases and a lot of objects, the primary exhibit is the tower itself. The exhibition is devoted to its architecture, history and the process of recent extensive restoration. When climbing to the top of the tower, on each floor you will see the changes and functions the tower underwent from the Middle Ages. The highlight of the entire visit is the 360° viewpoint where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the historical centre of Bratislava.
