Ovidius Faust’s Estate collection

It is a valuable, closed and internally structured set halfway between a museum collection and archive effects, which is framed by the years 1850–1972. The value of the collections lies in its comprehensiveness and represents significant testimony to the history of the Bratislava City Museum itself.

What does the collection document?

• Life and work of a personality: it documents the life and work of Ovídius Faust (1896–1972), a significant figure of the cultural life in the inter-war Bratislava and leading personality of the BCM in 1923–1945,

• Cultural life of the city: individual collections and sets document several aspects of cultural life in Bratislava, especially in the 1st half of the 20th century,

• Composition of the collection: the effects consist of personal documents, manuscripts of works, correspondance, various manuscripts, Faust’s author photos and art objects.

Valuable items with supra-regional significance:

• The collection of Ovídius Faust’s author photos is of specific value since some of them document contemporary appearance of Bratislava and its monuments.
