Štefan Gaučík, PhD. et PhD.
Štefan Gaučík, PhD. et PhD., is a senior research fellow at the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, at the Department of 19th-Century History. His long-term research focuses on the economic, social and political history of Hungary and Slovakia in the 19th and first half of the 20th century. His scholarly interests include the history of banking and entrepreneurship, economic elites, processes of modernisation, the regional history of Bratislava and southern Slovakia, as well as the history of historiography and historical memory.
In his research, he combines economic, social and cultural history with an analysis of social transformations, national identities and the functioning of elites during the period of modernisation. He pays particular attention to the history of the aristocracy and its social representation, especially to research on the Zay family, as well as to the history of Bratislava and its economic institutions. He also examines methodological issues in economic and social history and the development of historiography.
He is the author and co-author of several scholarly monographs, the editor of collective volumes, and the author of numerous studies published in Slovak and international academic journals and edited volumes. He regularly presents his research at international academic conferences and participates in national and international research projects. He is currently a researcher on APVV and VEGA projects and a member of the Scientific Council of the Bratislava City Museum.
